Karabar High School and Distance Education Centre is a dual delivery mode school located in Queanbeyan, NSW. The school strives to ensure all students are provided with a quality comprehensive education; catering for all student’s’ academic, cultural, social and sporting skills development. We are proud of our quality co-educational, comprehensive and inclusive programs which are appropriately adjusted for the learning styles of our students.
Karabar High School is a partially selective high school that provides a comprehensive curriculum for 850 students (including 110 Aboriginal students) in a face to face setting. This includes a Support unit of 6 classes. The school also manages the Queanbeyan and South East Industry Training College which caters for students who wish an alternate path to the HSC.
Karabar High School will go through a significant period of change within the next few years with a transition of established staff leaving the school increasing the proportion of younger inexperienced staff.
The school works closely with the local AECG and has strong support from its Parents and Citizens Association.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Agriculture, Technology Mandatory 7-8 and VET Primary Industries – General Agrcilture along with a willingness to teach senior biology and years 7-10 science.
Understanding of and capacity to engage the needs of students from all academic abilities and backgrounds.
Demonstrated commitment to engage in extra curricula activities promoting the extension of student opportunity and the development of student interests in the agricultural sciences inclusive of engagement with the wider community. Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students and students from low socio-economic groups with a demonstrated ability to develop engaging programs that lead to improved educational outcomes.
