About the Disability Support Worker
Family and Community Services are currently seeking enthusiastic and caring people to work with individuals with disabilities. You will provide care and support to people with a disability living in community based group homes and respite centers.
This work requires resilience, self confidence as well as the capability to assess and manage risks to ensure the safety of people with disabilities. Your responsibilities would include:
Implementing behavioural support plans aimed at assisting individuals who demonstrate challenging behaviors to achieve their goals.
Provide individual support to people with disabilities to enable them to undertake all aspects of daily living.
Undertaking various tasks relating to personal hygiene, health and well-being of the people who live in the group home.
Performing various household tasks including cooking, serving of meals, cleaning and shopping.
Influencing and encouraging independence for community integration

To be eligible and considered for the Disability Support Worker role
You must hold a current Australian Drivers License.
Have a current First Aid and/or Emergency Response certificate is compulsory for this role.
You must be willing to drive a government vehicle which can be a size of a minibus, seating up to 6-10 passengers.
It is required that you can commit to working 3 days per week on a 24/7 basis.
The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 requires persons engaged in children related work to have Working with Children clearances. If successful in this role you will be required to provide a Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencing in the role.
Please note: If successful in this role you will also be required to undertake a National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
The Disability Inclusion Act 2014 prohibits a person who has been convicted of a criminal offence as outlined in Schedule 2 of the Act to be employed to provide disability supports and services directly to people with a disability in a way that involves face to face or physical contact. These offences include:
A prescribed sexual offence as defined under the Criminal Procedure Act 1986(or equivalent law in other states or territories)
Specified other assaults under the Crimes Act 1900 (or equivalent law in other states or territories) for which the person was sentenced to 2 or more years imprisonment.
