CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER - EARLY START
UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG
WOLLONGONG, NSW, 2500
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, 5 Years, Full Time
CLOSING: 13 November 2016
REF NO. 25912
Early Start, a $44 million venture within the Faculty of Social Sciences, provides opportunities for local, national and international collaboration aimed at enhancing social capital and addressing disadvantage in our most vulnerable communities. Early Start is a strategic interdisciplinary teaching, research and community initiative that will enable a new generation of graduates to work with young children, their families, and communities. At the centre of all this is the 'Early Start Discovery Space' (ESDS), Australia's first Children's Discovery Museum. The Discovery Space encompasses a range of learning experiences that spark the imagination, reasoning and creative interests of children and adults through active participation. It does this by attracting people from all over NSW and beyond to come and experience the 'world class' Discovery Space facility on campus. In doing so the University of Wollongong is building direct connections to the community and supporting the development of all children in the region. Every child deserves the best chance in life.
The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the overall operations of the Early Start Facility, which includes the Early Start Discovery Space and the maintenance of links with the Early Start Engagement Centres. The position reports to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences. In alignment with Early Start's vision, mission, and strategic plan, the Chief Operating Officer oversees Early Start's management including the delivery of key performance indicators across all areas of the business.
The successful person will have the demonstrated ability to deal with complexity in strategic and operating environments and to find and implement solutions to complex problems. The individual must also inspire colleagues and consultants to create new Discovery Space experiences; have the willingness to work closely with and support the Academic Director of Early Start and the Director of the Early Start Research Institute; have outstanding and inspiring leadership attributes and ability to manage change and motivate staff in a complex operating environment. You will be results focussed, proactive, and a strong collaborator.
