The Workshop Project Superintendent is responsible for the fabrication workshop and managing the workshops’ personnel. The Workshop Project Superintendent also supports the NSW Industrial estimating team, by providing detailed planning, scheduling and coordination of the most suitable resources available in consultation with the Workshop Supervisor. This is done to meet the needs of a particular task or package of work, whilst working within quality, safety, environmental, budgetary and time constraints.
On occasion, the Workshop Project Superintendent will be required to manage projects outside of the workshop area and will take ownership of the maintenance or construction project/s at hand.
Whether it is a project in the workshop or an external project, the role takes the project from the initial stage of developing detailed scopes, preparation of estimates and project planning, through to project implementation and critiquing. The role ensures that project activities are technically supported, provide scheduling, quality assurance, project management, estimation, supervision and support services along with engineering and technical support for work undertaken by the NSW Industrial business.
The role is responsible for deliverables within allocated work projects including the management of contractors.
Strong emphasis of this role will be around promoting a positive “one team” work culture, leading change and continuous improvement.
Required skills and competencies
? Relevant Trade and/or Engineering qualifications (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent in construction, building installation or maintenance related discipline.
? At least 10 years experience in project engineering and 5 years experience leading a fabrication workshop team within heavy industry and/or mining.
? Demonstrated ability to manage OHSE, budget, and administration for project work.
? Proven track record of LEAN application.
? Proven ability to lead a team, workshop management and the knowledge to create a safe and positive work culture, as well as lead change.
? Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexibly and adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders, to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
? Excellent client-facing skills, along with strong written and verbal communication.
? High level of computer literacy, with the ability to effectively use ERP systems such as SAP, CAD and MS Project.
? Influencing, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.
? The role requires the ability to work flexible hours to meet the changing workloads to complete project requirements and tasks.
