The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) extends south of Sydney, about 250km along this picturesque coastal strip, and serves a population of more than 390,000. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of 7,300 across nine hospital sites and has a budget of over $800m. It is headquartered in Wollongong, 80km south of Sydney, and there has been significant recent investment across the LHD including the opening of the Shoalhaven Cancer Centre in 2013, the $100m Wollongong Hospital development and the planned Shellharbour Hospital redevelopment. Local decision making is at the forefront of how the organisation functions, led by a professional Health District Board, the Chief Executive Margot Mains, and her Executive Team.

The decision has been made to appoint an exceptional Executive Director, Clinical Operations (EDCO). This person is a key member of the District Executive Team and will report directly to the CE. The EDCO will lead, direct and manage clinical operations of ISLHD across a broad spectrum of health delivery settings and corporate functions, ensuring that the District delivers the highest quality care through the provision of clinical excellence and best practice in patient safety.

Key responsibilities include:

Manage the ISLHD’s clinical operations, ensuring a focus on clinical quality and safety in the delivery of sustainable services to the community. ?
Comply with and implement the NSW Health Risk Management Enterprise-Wide Policy and Framework and ensure the effective identification, management, monitoring and reporting of risks within the Health Service. ?
Role model and lead a culture of excellence based on the organisation’s values to ensure the organisation delivers patient/client focussed service in an adaptive, responsive and performance oriented manner ?
Support the Chief Executive in the implementation of organisation-wide change programs, including ISLHD’s Leadership & Governance and Research Frameworks, to improve performance in relation to clinical quality, safety and innovation.?
Ensure organisational strategies, including effective workforce planning and development, are implemented to maintain and enhance workforce capacity and capability to meet ISLHD’s current and future needs. ?
Proactively identify and pursue approaches and opportunities to engage health service stakeholders/clients, resolve issues and facilitate improved service delivery outcomes; and act upon service delivery issues identified at an organisational and systemic level by reducing or removing obstacles to service delivery ?
Develop and implement functional and operational business plans for the ISLHD in alignment with overall State strategic plans and ensure a quality customer focus in service delivery. ?
Provide strategic and operational advice to the Chief Executive related to the functional areas of accountability

We are seeking an experienced and influential leader who has successfully operated at the executive level and has a track record of driving change within a complex public health service. The person will have a proven track record of creating long lasting relationships, built on trust, with internal and external stakeholders. In consultation with the Executive team members and the CE they will determine organisational wide strategic direction and prioritisation of implementation of strategic and operational plans and projects. The individual will demonstrate natural leadership abilities, strong supervisory skills and an affinity and passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with their team. We are seeking someone who is energetic, ambitious and looking for a career move which will allow them to grow and develop their experience and career further. The person must be an excellent communicator, coach and team player, whilst being flexible in their approach.
