ACUTE SENIOR SPEECH PATHOLOGIST LEVEL 3

The senior speech pathologist is an acute specialist in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD), and is able to demonstrate advanced clinical skill and reasoning with minimum supervision.

The senior speech pathologist is responsible for a clinical caseload of acute inpatients which may include ICU, stroke, surgical, orthopaedic, renal, cardio-respiratory, oncology, aged care, neurology and vascular inpatients. The senior speech pathologist is also responsible for leading modified barium swallow procedures.

The senior speech pathologist is responsible for assisting the Unit Head and Clinical Leaders in implementing quality initiatives within the District, providing site leadership at Wollongong Hospital, and in the supervision and clinical support of staff and students.

The position will be required to work a 7 day rotating roster and will include weekend work.

1. Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in speech pathology, with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

3. Extensive experience in managing an adult inpatient and/or outpatient caseload in acute and/or rehabilitation settings.

4. Ability to work independently with complex patient presentations.

5. Demonstrated skills in working as part of a team.

6. Experience conducting modified barium swallow evaluations.

7. Previous experience in supervising staff and/or students in acute and/or rehabilitation settings.

8. Current class C driver’s licence.
