SENIOR LECTURER – NEUROMECHANICS

The position will be located within the Disciplines of Medical & Health Sciences and Exercise Science & Rehabilitation, which offer courses of study in Medical & Health Science, Exercise Science & Rehabilitation, and Clinical Exercise Physiology. Our programs allow students to choose professionally accredited courses in Exercise Science that focus on developing discipline-specific knowledge and skills, or courses that provide a broadly based University education in the medical sciences underlying human health. All courses are underpinned by a strong commitment to scientific principles, and access to state-of-the-art teaching facilities that are constantly evolving in quality and scope.

We have a vibrant research environment boasting cutting edge laboratories, which are staffed by researchers with international profiles, with research ranging from Molecular and Systems Neuroscience, Molecular and Integrative Biology, to Biomechanics, Sensorimotor Control, Neurophysiology and Applied Physiology. In the last ERA (2015) research ranking the unit received a prestigious 5-star ranking in the category: Human Movement and Sport Science (code: 1106). We possess several notable research centres linked to Medical & Exercise Science such as the Biomechanics Research Laboratory, the Neural Control of Movement Laboratory, the Centre for Human and Applied Physiology, the Centre for Translational Neuroscience, and the Lipid Research Centre. In addition, there are many opportunities for interdisciplinary research within the School of Medicine and through the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI). The School actively encourages undergraduate students to become involved in research opportunities, and encourage the pursuit of postgraduate research opportunities through our Honours, Master of Philosophy and PhD programs. There are currently over 80 post-graduate students in the School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct independently led, high impact research and quality teaching primarily in the areas of Neuromechanics, Motor Learning (including Skill Acquisition) and/or Motor Adaptation. He/she will also be expected to contribute to teaching in other areas, such as Biomechanics, Human Growth and Development, or other areas as directed by the discipline leaders and Head of School. The candidate would be required to supervise higher degree research (Honours, Masters and PhD) students and pursue an active research program plus contribute to School and Faculty level governance and administration.
