TECHNICAL OFFICER
The purpose of this position is to meet the goals of the Clinical Chemistry Department and South Eastern Area Laboratory Services (SEALS) in terms of (but not restricted to) accuracy, timeliness and quality of testing and other customer service goals as determined by SEALS.
Perform routine laboratory and other duties for each area of the Clinical Chemistry laboratory according to documented procedures or verbal instructions and in a professional and exemplary manner.
Foster professional working relationships, conduct and work ethic among laboratory staff members.
Resolve technical and scientific problems as they arise.
Participate in day, afternoon, weekend, shift rosters.
Participate in overtime and recall rosters as required.
May be required to travel and work in other areas of SEALS, especially the Shellharbour and Nowra Laboratories if required.
A vacancy exists for a temporary part-time Technical Officer in the Clinical Chemistry Department, South Eastern Area Laboratory Services (SEALS). The laboratory is situated within The Wollongong Hospital but services the needs of the hospitals and units of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District. A comprehensive range of biochemical tests consistent with the needs of regional and acute care hospitals is performed in the laboratory. The successful applicant will be required to work a rotating shift roster that includes weekend and weekday afternoon and day shifts.
This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.
An eligibility list will be created for future temporary and casual vacancies.
Minimum Diploma in Laboratory Technology or other equivalent qualification with Pathology based subjects deemed appropriate by the employer.
Current ability to use computers with graphical user interface and commercial software, especially Microsoft Office products.
Demonstrated ability to perform work in a clinical laboratory.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team or alone.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to work weekend and after-hours shifts.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize duties to allow the most efficient use of time and resources.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with other staff and customers of the IAHS Pathology Service in a clear and professional manner.
Current unencumbered Class C Driver’s Licence.
