Purpose of Position

The position is responsible for providing clinical governance over the assessment and treatment for patients on both the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and the Acute Aged care Geriatric Unit at Wollongong hospital. The MAU is a rapid assessment unit and therefore requires organising timely patient discharge or transfer within 48 hours. This includes the appropriate referral of chronic and complex patients to community services. The position works as part of a multidisciplinary team on the Medical Assessment Unit and supervises the level 1/2 physiotherapy (in acute geriatrics) and technical assistants. The position provides expert advice and education to both physiotherapy and hospital staff on patient care for the above mentioned clinical areas. The position also advises the Unit Head on issues pertaining to the above areas helping to formulate, revise and implement the department’s yearly objectives. As the senior in this area the position is expected to lead and project manage continuous quality improvement activities. This position may be required to work at other sites within the district and participate in a seven day roster.

This is a temporary part time 32hpw maternity relief position until 24 June 2020 with the possibility of an extension at same/reduced hours.

Selection Criteria

1. Current Physiotherapy Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) 2. Extensive experience and advanced clinical reasoning for the assessment and treatment of medical and geriatric patients 3. Well developed time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sound computer skills (demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and other Microsoft applications) 4. Demonstrated commitment and evidence of implementation of ISLHD CORE values 5. Knowledge and proven ability to undertake quality improvement and service evaluation processes 6. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team 7. Ability to participate in staff and student supervision 8. Current NSW drivers licence or equivalent
